Joseph Gordon-Levitt — With a well-known movie director for a grandfather, Joseph Gordon-Levitt was introduced to the world of entertainment at a young age. He started his career as the long-haired teen on “3rd Rock from the Sun”. Since then, he’s taken on roles in many successful and intense films.
Joseph Gordon-Levitt is currently the latest actor to take on the role of Robin in the new Batman series, making his appearance in The Dark Knight Rises. While he has celebrity status, Gordon-Levitt does not make any claim to fame. Many of his quotes, instead, have to do with movie making and the art of acting.
“The most valiant thing you can do as an artist is inspire someone else to be creative.”
“To me, a sex scene in a movie generally means a gratuitous scene that doesn’t serve the story but gives a kind of excuse; we’ve got these two actors, we want to see them naked, so let’s bring in the music and the soft light.”
“Success is not important to me, nor are power or money. If the script feels good, then I’m in. It’s that simple.”
“That’s what life is: repetitive routines. It’s a matter of finding the balance between deviating from those patterns and knowing when to repeat them.”
“I’ve played the smart kid, the funny one, the nice sweet one, even the angry one, but never the sexy one.”
“Actors didn’t use to be celebrities. A hundred years ago, they put the theaters next to the brothels.”
“When I was a teenager I loved acting, but I really just loved it for myself. I didn’t like the fact that anyone else saw the work I was doing. When I moved to New York, I started to realize that I wanted people to see the stuff that I was doing, and I wanted it to mean something to them.”
“One of the hardest things about playing a soldier is kinda acknowledging that I’ve never done, and might never do, anything that brave.”
“The whole concept of celebrity pisses me off. While I’m not a celebrity, it’s such a weird concept that society has cooked up for us. Astronauts and teachers are much more amazing than actors.”
“Celebrity doesn’t have anything to do with art or craft. It’s about being rich and thinking that you’re better than everybody else.”
“I was in a horror movie and a teen comedy… I was the first kill in Halloween H2O.”
“Most scripts are bad. I read a lot of them.”
“I don’t blame the people for the fact that so many movies are bad. I think there’s a corrupt, perverted, lazy and sloppy attitude that’s pervasive in the movie business. The whole entertainment business is kind of crumbling around us.”
